ShoreTel in St. Louis Today: St. Peters changes its phone system

The city would have had to update switches for the old system at a cost of $180,000, Willkinson said. Instead, the city switched to a voice over internet protocol phone system.

The new Shoretel phone system cost about $350,000 through a company called IDeACOM.The city sought bids for the new system, he said.

The city also switched service providers, Wilkinson said, and the new system should save the city money in operating costs. He said the city was paying AT&T and CenturyTel about $7,100 per month for phone service. AT&T had the eastern half of the city. CenturyTel had the western half.

“Protecting your digital assets after death”

Thanks to an endless stream of gadgets many of us are in heaven when it comes to technology. Do-it-all phones, never ending storage, social web sites – to many this is what life is all about.

At some point though drop dead gorgeous gizmos outlive their owners. But once we die, what happens to the digital life we leave behind?

Plan ahead

As might be expected, policies vary from company to company. E-mail providers will often give up the deceased’s password on receipt of a death certificate from the family.

Social site Facebook offers to memorialize a page by freezing it in time, but Flickr refuses all access to an account and Twitter does not even address death directly in its FAQ.

A new book, Total Recall by Gordon Bell and Jim Gemmell, raises intriguing questions about who eventually owns your personal digital data. That is why estate planners say it is best to take charge while you are still breathing.

Acresso Software featured in Computer Technology Review: Virtualization: “Think You Aren’t Violating Your Software License Contracts? Think Again

Acresso Software News: Virtualization is on the minds of most IT executives and administrators for several very good reasons, including a reduced datacenter footprint, lower overall IT costs, simplified server management, and a greener data center. But virtualization can also make it very difficult to track the use of software licenses. While it brings tremendous benefits, a virtualization strategy may be putting organizations at risk of violating their software license contracts — a compliance nightmare that could cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.
