StrongMail featured in iMedia Connection: The culprits of email marketing noise

With the World Cup being played right now, I have been watching more soccer (or futbol, for those non-Americans out there). During the first game, I, like many others, could not figure out what that crazy buzzing sound was. For those of you who are not familiar with it yet, it sounds like a swarm of killer bees. The sound comes from the vuvuzela (pronounced voo-voo-ZAY-luh) horn, and it is part of the South African culture to blow these loud horns during a soccer match.

Pentaho featured in Enterprise Storage Forum: Hadoop Makes Sense of Lots of Data

Mike Karp, an analyst with Ptak, Noel & Associates, cautions that any kind of open-source software is by its very nature a double-edged sword: Cheap to implement, but often hard to find adequate support, especially in the early stages of adoption.

”Most of where the support would come from, after all, is a group of volunteers; as a result, companies are often nervous about doing open source code with business-critical applications,” said Karp. “The good news, of course, is that these volunteers frequently are often inspired to write great code, and there’s plenty of evidence in the past that open-source projects have achieved great success.”

Computer History Museum featured in Tech Republic: Top 10 computer history Web sites

If you’re a computer history buff — or you just want to revisit the tech of your youth — check out these museum sites featuring articles, pictures, forums, and even the first TV commercials for PCs.

I love visiting computer history sites and watching computer history shows. Why? When I visit these sites, I gain a perspective on a part of my life that I did not have at the time I was passing through it. For example, when I first started programming in Applesoft on an Apple II computer, I thought it would be a great business language.

ShoreTel featured in The Wall Street Journal: A Tough Call

Sellers of mobile devices and other high-tech communications products see small business as the hot new frontier. But so far, demand has been muted.

Big vendors like AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. are going head to head in this market, known as unified communications, as are smaller service providers and equipment makers. What they’re all offering are tools similar to what large corporations have—a mix of Internet and phone services, like customer-service applications, instant messaging and email. Many of these services and products will allow small businesses to field more mobile workers, track their whereabouts and cut back on outdated infrastructure like land lines.

Seagate featured in Computer Shopper: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-portable Drive (500GB)

2010 is a tricky time to buy a speed-sensitive computing peripheral. Speedy next-generation transfer technologies like USB 3.0 and eSATA are popping up in new laptops and desktops, offering much faster transfer rates. But perennial port favorites like USB 2.0 and FireWire are still much more common, and they aren’t about to vanish from home or office computers anytime soon. So, if you happen to have a new PC with, say, a pair of speedy USB 3.0 ports, do you opt for a USB 3.0 external drive that works great at home, but is limited to USB 2.0 speeds on your office machine? And what about when new technologies emerge that may be even faster, like Intel’s Light Peak optical cable technology?
