Vyatta featured on GigaOM/BusinessWeek: âWhere Are the Network Virtual Appliances?â
Vyatta news: The networking industry is stuck in the 1990s, the last time there was a fundamental shift in commonly deployed network architectures. While servers and applications have gone virtual, migrating into cloud computing environments, networking technologies remain bound to physical hardware and data center racks, creating potential gaps in support or security in virtualized environments. As server virtualization moves into the enterprise and cloud data centers, networking needs to follow with virtual appliances.

Vyatta featured on Network Computing: âVyatta Announces New 3500 Series Routersâ
Vyatta news: Vyatta will announce a new 3500 series of open source routers this week that run on the Intel Xeon 5500 “Nehalem” chips and promise bi-directional traffic at up to 20Gbps. Scrappy Vyatta compares the 3500s to Cisco’s ASR 1006s, but it’s doubtful they will take a big bite out of Cisco’s sales any time soon. That said, the new series of routers provides real cost savings to small enterprise customers (users numbering in the hundreds) who can’t afford proprietary options. That’s a serious draw in hard economic times.

Vyatta featured on CNET News: âThe yin and yang of system specializationâ
Vyatta news: Systems are getting more general-purpose. At least in terms of units sold, servers with two x86 processors dominate the landscape.
And it’s more than just servers. For example, on Tuesday Vyatta announced a new series of new network appliances, the Vyatta 3500. These systems, like the other appliances that Vyatta sells, combine standard off-the-shelf x86 server hardware with an integrated software subscription that provides networking functions such as Firewall, VPN, IP address management, administration, diagnostics, and so forth. Vyatta pitches its appliance as a much lower-priced alternative to dedicated networking hardware from the likes of Cisco.

Vyatta in Network World: Vyatta once again discounts to Cisco profit
Open-source thorn in giant’s sandal will slash prices to make up margin
Open-source networker Vyatta is once again offering discounts to customers based on Cisco’s make up margin — the percentage by which Cisco’s profit falls short of 100%. Since Cisco’s profit margin is usually in the mid-60s, Vyatta slashes the price of its appliances and subscriptions in the mid-30s.
